Wyo. residents to get water test results in July

The residents of a rural community in central Wyoming who suspect a technical drill their wells contaminated can expect to hear from federal officials in July if their water may be dangerous to drink, authorities said Tuesday.

Pavilion area residents, who say their odors and discolored water, lack of hydraulic fracturing, a process in which developers pump pressurized water, sand and chemicals underground to force open cracks in deep rock formations and improve the flow of oil and gas.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tested the water wells in the region in March 2009 and January 2010.The EPA plans to publish its final results in July, the EPA said spokesman Richard Mylott.

Mylott declined to discuss what the EPA has concluded that it would be premature.
